The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the other end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this with the lock in place, but in the event that this is not possible, you may remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks such as lock snapping, so it is essential to make sure it's not too long.

The design of the latest cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These features are designed to minimize the chances of an attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in a different direction. This can help deflect the attack, and protect your door.

There are cylinders that are designed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the lock's break line and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is much quicker and less difficult than opening multipoint locks.
